Glen Allen's Summer Evenings Got Denser This Year. Here's Where They Landed.

The stretch of Henrico between Mountain Road and Lake Brook Drive is quiet most of the year. From late May through late September, it isn't. Four separate venues inside a roughly four-mile radius are running outdoor programming on overlapping nights, and the calendar this summer is thicker than it has been in years.

The reason is partly structural. After Hours Concerts announced it would focus its entire 2026 season on Innsbrook Pavilion and put its Doswell location on hiatus, telling fans on Facebook that it wanted to build a bigger lineup of tribute nights and national headliners in the West End of Richmond. The practical effect for anyone living off Nuckols, Springfield, or Cox: the shows that used to split north of the county now all land in your backyard.

If you can drive to Short Pump Town Center in ten minutes, you can reach a live outdoor show almost any Friday or Saturday between now and late September without leaving Glen Allen.

That is the claim worth internalizing before booking a downtown Uber this weekend. What follows is a map of where the nights actually are.

The Innsbrook Pavilion is the anchor this summer

The 2026 SERVPRO After Hours Concerts season at The Innsbrook Pavilion in Glen Allen kicked off Thursday, May 28 with country singer Gary Allan taking the stage as the first act of the 2026 summer season, and organizers have said the season will showcase more than 17 nationally touring artists and six tribute acts, running into the fall. The venue sits at 4901 Lake Brook Drive with a capacity of roughly 4,000, which is small enough that a "lawn seat" is a real lawn seat and large enough to pull genuine touring acts.

The Doswell decision matters because the number of Innsbrook dates this year is not the usual half-season. There are roughly a dozen national headliner shows already on the books plus a full tribute-night schedule, and organizers have kept adding. Recently announced additions include The Legwarmers, an 80s tribute act, alongside reggae-rock tribute energy and classic country star power.

A partial list of what is landing on Glen Allen lawns before Labor Day:

• July 17, 18, 23, 25, 31 — SERVPRO tribute nights, gates 5:30, show 7 p.m.
• August 7 — The Concert, a Tribute to ABBA
• August 8 — Hanson
• August 21 — Brothers Osborne, the country duo, with tickets that went on sale May 22
• August 27, 29 and Sept. 3, 4, 11, 18 — additional national headliner and tribute dates
• October 24 — Clint Black with Midland, part of a special limited-run eight-date tour

Blues Traveler, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, and 38 Special are all on the broader 2026 calendar as well. Chris Janson, a Grand Ole Opry member with five No. 1 singles including "Buy Me a Boat" and "Good Vibes," played the Pavilion on June 5.

The quieter stage almost no one outside Glen Allen knows about

Two miles north on Mountain Road, The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen at 2880 Mountain Road runs its own outdoor programming on what it calls Center Field Stage. The Center announced its 2026-2027 season at a June 9 preview party, and President K Alferio previewed a lineup covering jazz, comedy, Motown, roots music, and theatrical storytelling. Season subscribers save up to 20 percent, and individual tickets went on sale July 6, 2026.

Two dates worth putting on the calendar even if you never buy a Center subscription:

The Richmond International Dance Festival returns Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., free and family-friendly, presented by Culture Encounters in cooperation with The Cultural Arts Center. It features 18 cultures, including Ghanaian, Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, Peruvian, Irish, and Indian traditions, with live performances, free dance classes, food, vendors, and a kids station. Culture Encounters, founded by Amma Gatty, is now establishing its office and program base inside the Center as part of a new partnership announced this June, which gives the festival a permanent home in Glen Allen.

The Center's outdoor performances run under a general-admission, lawn-chair-or-blanket format with wine, beer, snacks, and dessert available on site. Children ages 3 and under attend without a ticket. If Innsbrook is the arena option, this is the picnic option.

The two options residents most often forget

The Innsbrook and Cultural Arts Center calendars pull most of the local coverage, but two other Glen Allen programs matter more for a spontaneous Friday.

West Broad Village Summer Concert Series runs Saturdays at 2250 Old Brick Road. The June 6 show featured Rivanna from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., admission free, with the format built around grabbing dinner from a restaurant in the complex, laying out a blanket, and staying for a set. It is the closest thing Glen Allen has to a walk-up-and-listen night.

Deep Run Park at 9900 Ridgefield Parkway does two different things. Henrico Recreation and Parks runs outdoor concerts on the lawn — the May 29 show featured Prabir Trio, an Indian-inspired rock band, from 6 to 9 p.m. — and it also runs a Friday Movie in the Park series starting at 7 p.m., free, no registration required. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and a flashlight. Picnics are welcome. Titles are not published due to licensing, but the Rec and Parks line at 501-PARK will tell you what's showing that week.

The value of that table is not the individual entries. It is the fact that four distinct evening formats sit within a fifteen-minute drive of each other, and residents who default to "there's nothing to do out here in the summer" are usually thinking about only one of them.

What this means for a normal Friday

If you are new to the neighborhood or you have been treating summer weekends as a downtown-only proposition, three habits are worth building.

First, check the Innsbrook calendar the Monday before any Friday you want out of the house. The August and September lineup is heavy enough that a night you would happily pay for is almost always available with three days' notice, and Party Porch and Skybox seating typically survive later than lawn tickets do.

Second, use West Broad Village as your Plan B. It is free, the acts skew local and pleasant, and if the weather turns you are three minutes from indoor seating at any of the complex's restaurants. Very few Glen Allen residents actually treat it as a weekly option, which is exactly why it rarely feels crowded.

Third, put August 15 on the calendar in ink. The Richmond International Dance Festival is the single largest free cultural event happening inside Glen Allen this year, and the fact that it now has a permanent home at 2880 Mountain Road means it is going to keep growing. Getting there early the first year is the cheapest way to make it a family tradition.

The broader point, if there is one worth taking away, is that Glen Allen's evening calendar changed shape this summer without most of its residents noticing. The Doswell pause pushed a full After Hours season into a single Henrico venue. The Cultural Arts Center reset its programming around a new outdoor stage and a new multicultural partnership. West Broad Village and Deep Run kept doing what they have always done, only now they sit inside a much thicker week.
